Enhanced Security Deployed for Chottanikkara Temple Festival in Kochi
In preparation for the Makam Thozhal festival at the renowned Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple on Monday, authorities in Kochi have significantly bolstered security arrangements. The Ernakulam rural police have issued a detailed statement outlining comprehensive measures to ensure safety and order during the religious event.
Extensive Police Presence and Surveillance
Under the direct supervision of the rural district police chief, approximately 650 police officers have been deployed to manage the festival security. This contingent includes five Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) who are overseeing operations. To enhance monitoring capabilities, around 70 surveillance cameras have been strategically installed throughout the temple premises and the surrounding areas.
Police personnel, including plainclothes officers, have been stationed to proactively prevent any criminal activities in and around the temple. This multi-layered security approach aims to create a safe environment for the thousands of devotees expected to attend.
Facilities and Queue Management for Devotees
Extensive facilities have been arranged to accommodate the influx of devotees seeking darshan at the temple. Special arrangements have been made for darshan via the North Poorapparambu and West Nada entrances. Additionally, a dedicated queue system has been established specifically for local residents to streamline the process and reduce waiting times.
Comprehensive Traffic Restrictions and Parking Arrangements
To manage the anticipated vehicular congestion, the police have announced strict traffic restrictions. Vehicles approaching from the Mulanthuruthy side are required to proceed towards Kottayathupadi via the bypass road, avoiding the road directly in front of the temple. Similarly, vehicles coming from Thiruvankulam and Kureekkad sides must take a right turn and use the bypass road, steering clear of the temple frontage.
For those arriving from Vennikulam and Muriyamangalam sides, the designated route involves entering the main road via Adiyakkal Bridge and proceeding through the bypass road. Importantly, vehicle traffic is completely prohibited on the road that encircles the temple to ensure pedestrian safety and smooth movement.
Designated parking areas have been allocated for vehicles of devotees attending the festival. These include the Chottanikkara School Ground, Bhima Parking Ground near the panchayat office, the parking ground near Tata Hospital, and the parking ground opposite the petrol pump. Large vehicles are instructed to park exclusively at the panchayat parking ground to avoid obstruction.
Inauguration of Police Control Room and Official Inspections
The police control room specifically established for the Makam Thozhal festival was inaugurated on Sunday by Range DIG Arul R B Krishna. Following the inauguration, DIG Krishna conducted a thorough inspection of the security arrangements and preparedness measures. The event was attended by District Police Chief K S Sudarshan, senior police officers, and officials from the devaswom board, underscoring the coordinated effort to ensure a successful and secure festival.
