This intensive operation resulted in the registration of five separate cases and the arrest of six individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related activities. The operation was carried out jointly by the Kochi city police, the excise department, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and a specialized dog squad. Substantial MDMA Seizures and Arrests
During the coordinated raids, law enforcement officials made two major seizures of MDMA, a potent synthetic drug. In the first instance, 13.27 grams of MDMA was confiscated from Jithin D'Cruz, a 32-year-old resident of Palluruthy. He was apprehended near Premier Junction in the Kalamassery area of the city.
In a more substantial seizure, authorities recovered 202 grams of MDMA from Star Homes in Tripunithura. This led to the arrest of two individuals: Akshay, a 29-year-old from Maradu, and Reshma, a 34-year-old from Vengoor in Thiruvananthapuram. Both were taken into custody in connection with this specific case. All arrested individuals were subsequently produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Migrant Worker Arrested with Large Quantity of Ganja
In a separate but related development, a migrant worker was arrested for allegedly possessing four kilograms of ganja in Kuruppampady near Perumbavoor on the same day. The accused was identified as Rabbul Islam, a 23-year-old originally from Nagaon in Assam. His arrest was made by a special investigation team led by the Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police, with support from officers of the Kuruppampady police station.
Police revealed that Islam had been under surveillance for several days following specific intelligence inputs about narcotics sales in the region. According to investigative findings, Islam had resided in Kuruppampady for nearly a year after renting accommodation in the area. During this period, he allegedly engaged in the sale of ganja by packaging it into small parcels and selling them for approximately Rs 500 each.
Investigation into Supply Chain and Interstate Networks
Preliminary investigations indicate that the contraband ganja was sourced from Odisha and transported to Kerala for distribution. Police suspect that the accused supplied the narcotic substance in small quantities to local users and workers in and around the town. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved in the supply chain and to identify the precise source of the drugs.
Efforts are also being made to trace possible links to larger interstate drug trafficking networks that may be operating across regional boundaries. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was produced before the court and remanded, as authorities continue their probe into the broader network.
