Koderma Man Gets 14 Years for Dowry Death

A local court in Koderma on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for the murder of his wife over dowry demands in June 2025. Additional District and Sessions Judge III Rakesh Chandra also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, Saffiullah, a resident of Bagridih under Domchanch police station limits. In default of payment, he will serve an additional three months in jail.

Case Background

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother, Afsana. She stated that her daughter, Simran Khatoon, married Saffiullah in 2023. Since then, Simran was subjected to torture by her husband, who demanded Rs 1 lakh in cash and a motorcycle. Afsana alleged that her daughter was killed because the family could not fulfill the dowry demands.

Legal Proceedings

Public Prosecutor Praveen Kumar Singh informed the court that the prosecution successfully proved the charges against Saffiullah. The court held him guilty under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with dowry death. The sentence was pronounced after considering the gravity of the offense and the evidence presented.
