Kolhapur Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Mother in Family Dispute
A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday by the MIDC Kupwad police in Kolhapur on charges of killing his 51-year-old mother. The incident, which has shocked the local community, stemmed from a long-standing family conflict over living arrangements.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to police reports, the deceased, identified as Sangeet Jhende, was a resident of Manmodi village in Miraj tehsil of Sangli district. She had expressed her unwillingness to live under the same roof with her son, Jagdish, and his wife. This disagreement led to frequent altercations between the mother and son, creating a tense household environment.
On Thursday, the situation escalated dramatically. Police officials stated that Jagdish allegedly attacked his mother during one of these confrontations. The incident came to light when Sangeet was discovered lying unconscious in her home by concerned neighbors.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Neighbors immediately alerted the authorities and rushed Sangeet to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Following the discovery, Jagdish fled the scene but was later apprehended by police. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Anandrao Ghadge, assistant inspector of MIDC Kupwad police station, provided crucial details about the case. "The brother of the deceased woman registered a formal complaint with us, based on which we filed an FIR," Ghadge explained. "Medical examination revealed that the mother died of asphyxiation. We strongly suspect that the son used a pillow to choke his mother to death."

The accused was produced before the Miraj court following his arrest. The court has remanded him in two-day police custody for further investigation. This custody period will allow authorities to gather additional evidence and complete their inquiry into the tragic event.
