A distressing incident of theft occurred on a bus near the Ajay Nagar crossing on EM Bypass in Kolkata, where a passenger was robbed of his mobile phone valued at Rs 25,000. The event took place around 6:30 PM on Sunday, leaving the victim shaken and prompting immediate police action.
Details of the Theft Incident
According to the complaint filed with the Survey Park police, the victim, Sumon Nanda, a resident of East Midnapore who is currently staying in East Rajapur near Santoshpur, was traveling on the bus. As the bus approached the Ajay Nagar bus stand and Nanda prepared to disembark, he was suddenly pushed from behind by unknown individuals. This push caused him to lose his balance while stepping off the bus, creating a moment of chaos.
Taking advantage of this confusion, one of the assailants swiftly removed Nanda's cellphone from his pocket. Before Nanda could react or identify the perpetrators, they fled the scene, disappearing into the crowd. The entire episode unfolded in just a few minutes, highlighting the brazen nature of the crime.
Police Investigation and Victim's Concerns
The Survey Park police have registered a theft case and initiated a thorough probe into the matter. Nanda provided crucial details to aid the investigation, including two IMEI numbers and two SIM numbers associated with the stolen device. This information is vital for tracing the phone and potentially identifying the culprits.
Nanda expressed significant concern over the theft, noting that his banking details were stored on the phone. In response, he has taken preventive measures by blocking his accounts temporarily to safeguard against unauthorized access or financial fraud. The police are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the accused and gather more evidence.
