A young woman working as a cook and caregiver in Kolkata has come forward with serious allegations. She claims a Kolkata Police sub-inspector repeatedly molested her at his Kasba residence. The woman secured this job through a local ayah centre just days before the incidents began.
Allegations of Molestation and Intimidation
The survivor detailed disturbing events in her complaint. She stated the officer took advantage of moments when other family members were absent. According to her account, this allowed him to act on what she describes as his criminal intentions.
One specific incident stands out. The woman reported completing cooking duties between 10:30 AM and 10:45 AM on January 1st. While cleaning a room, she says the sub-inspector approached her from behind. He embraced her forcefully and attempted to violate her dignity.
"I pushed him away, and he threatened me, saying he would deal with me," the woman stated in her plaint. This confrontation allegedly escalated quickly. The officer then placed a packet of biscuits and other items into a trash bag. He accused the caregiver of stealing these objects.
Police Response and Missing Complaint
The case took a significant turn when Deputy Commissioner of Police Bidisha Kalita became involved. After consulting senior officers at Lalbazar police headquarters, she ordered an inquiry. This investigation focuses on a troubling discrepancy.
The woman reportedly sent an email complaint about the molestation as early as January 6th. However, senior officers could not locate any copy of this complaint in official records until Saturday morning. This raised serious questions about whether the complaint was deliberately ignored or misplaced.
A senior officer at Lalbazar addressed this issue directly. "We decided to initiate departmental action against the investigating officer," the officer explained. The police had registered two cases: a theft complaint against the survivor and a molestation complaint against the sub-inspector.
The investigating officer reasoned that the theft complaint arrived on January 6th around 6 PM. The molestation complaint reportedly came later that night. Based on this timing, the IO treated the molestation allegation as intentional and mala fide.
"However, according to Standard Operating Procedure, any complaint by a woman has to be treated seriously," the senior officer emphasized. "Hence, we are seeking departmental action against the IO."
Counter-Allegations and Community Reaction
The sub-inspector's wife presented a different version of events. She claimed the caregiver fabricated the molestation charges. According to her, the woman actually stole from their house before abruptly leaving the job.
Adding complexity to the situation, the complaint letter circulating in media reports lacks official police stamps or receipts. This absence of documentation has fueled further debate about the case's handling.
The young woman resides in the Sonarpur police station area. She found employment at the police officer's Kasba residence through a maid centre. While performing her duties as a cook, she unfortunately attracted unwanted attention from the officer.
After the alleged molestation incident, matters worsened. The caregiver called the head of her placement centre. When this person arrived, the woman says she was forced to write a statement promising never to steal again.
The next day brought additional accusations. The officer's daughter-in-law claimed the caregiver stole gold from the household. "This is a complete lie," the woman firmly stated in her complaint.
These serious charges against a police officer have created considerable stir in the local community. Residents express concern and demand a thorough, transparent investigation. The accused sub-inspector, currently posted with the Reserve Force after previous service in the East Division, has not yet provided any public statement regarding the allegations.
