A Kolkata Police constable with 23 years of service, who was suspended on April 27 for allegedly expressing his political views and sharing content on social media that could disturb communal harmony, has been asked to rejoin duty. Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, lifted the suspension of Ramkrishna Koyal, a constable from the first battalion, through a written directive issued on Friday.
Background of the Suspension
Before the state elections, Koyal criticized Trinamool Congress-influenced welfare activities by creating a reel on social media while in uniform. He also accused the Kolkata Police of Islamisation. The reel went viral across the state, prompting Lalbazar to suspend him quickly to avoid controversy.
Reinstatement After Elections
With the elections now over, the suspension has been lifted. Police officials stated that his place of joining will be informed soon, pending completion of a departmental inquiry.
This incident highlights the sensitivity of police personnel expressing political views, especially while in uniform, and the measures taken to maintain communal harmony.
