Kolkata Influencer Alleges 40-Minute Road Rage Ordeal on Vidyasagar Setu
A 28-year-old female influencer and her male friend were allegedly subjected to a prolonged road rage incident involving verbal abuse and threats by four bikers on Vidyasagar Setu in Kolkata. The distressing episode, which lasted for more than 40 minutes following a minor collision, has prompted the woman to file a formal complaint at Hastings Police Station, seeking immediate police action.
Details of the Incident
According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 1 am on Thursday. The woman, who resides in Shibpur and Bansdroni, reported that traffic was moving slowly due to congestion, with her vehicle traveling at approximately 20–25 kmph when it was struck from behind.
She alleged that two motorcycles carrying four men rammed into her car and then confronted her and her friend, accusing them of causing the accident. The woman claimed the men used abusive language, demanded money for damages, and threatened legal consequences. Additionally, she stated that both she and her companion sustained injuries during the altercation.
Police Response and Alleged Delays
The complainant said she immediately called the police emergency number 100 after the collision and received multiple calls from police personnel. However, she alleged that officers failed to reach the spot for an extended period, citing difficulty in tracking the location.
After waiting for 30-45 minutes, she and her friend attempted to find police officers themselves. In her statement, the victim alleged that during this wait, the bikers again tried to hit them and issued threats. She also claimed she attempted to stop one of the riders from leaving but was unable to do so as the others pulled him away and fled the scene.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
Hastings police has registered an FIR in response to the complaint. Police officials stated that the claims of abuse and threats against the complainant were found to be, prima facie, true. An officer involved in the case said, "We seized footage and contacted the RTO in this regard", indicating that an investigation is underway to gather evidence and identify the perpetrators.
This incident highlights growing concerns about road safety and law enforcement responsiveness in urban areas, particularly during late-night hours. Authorities are urging citizens to report such incidents promptly and cooperate with investigations to ensure justice is served.
