Kolkata Passport Office Limits Walk-In Service to 3 Days

The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Kolkata has announced the resumption of the walk-in appointment system with new restrictions. Starting June 15, the passport office located at 4, Brabourne Road, will strictly limit walk-in entry to just three days a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — and narrow the service window to a single hour, from 10 am to 11 am, according to a directive issued by Regional Passport Officer Ashish Middha.

Changes to Walk-In Services

Citizens will no longer be allowed to walk in for general passport queries or applications. The RPO has designated only three specific administrative services that qualify for walk-in entry during this hourly window:

  • File closure for applicants needing to officially wind up or clear pending or stalled files.
  • Passport re-dispatch collection or re-routing of an undelivered passport, provided the document has been returned to RPO Kolkata only once.
  • Additional booklet fees for processing payments for extra passport booklets.

Important Rule for Returned Passports

A crucial rule applies to returned passports: if a passport has been returned undelivered by the postal service to the RPO more than once, it will not be eligible for the walk-in window. In such cases, applicants must go through standard online service channels.
