In a coordinated operation on Tuesday, Kolkata Police intercepted and confiscated a total of Rs 5 lakh during naka checks across two separate police station jurisdictions.
First Interception Near J L Nehru Road
The initial seizure occurred at approximately 10:45 am in the vicinity of J L Nehru Road. Officers from the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, bolstered by a Static Surveillance Team (SST), flagged down a suspicious vehicle for inspection. Upon conducting a thorough search, the authorities recovered Rs 1,00,000 in cash from one of the occupants. The individual was unable to produce any valid documentation or provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of the funds.
Second Seizure Under Burtolla Police Station Area
A subsequent interception took place in the afternoon within the jurisdiction of the Burtolla Police Station. During an intensive checking drive along APC Roy Road, the SST intercepted another vehicle. A comprehensive search of this car led to the discovery and recovery of Rs 4,00,000 in cash. Similar to the first incident, the accused failed to furnish any legitimate paperwork or clarify the origin of the money.
Legal Procedures Followed
In both instances, the accused individuals could not justify the possession of the substantial cash amounts, raising suspicions of potential electoral malpractices or other illicit activities. Following standard legal protocols, the total seized amount of Rs 5,00,000 was promptly deposited at the respective police stations. This action ensures proper custody and facilitates further investigation into the matter.
