Shocking Abduction on Kolkata's EM Bypass
A terrifying incident of abduction and assault has shaken Kolkata, leading to the arrest of one man while two of his accomplices remain at large. The event unfolded on a Friday evening near a busy thoroughfare, highlighting concerns over public safety.
Chilling Details of the Crime
According to the official police complaint, the 28-year-old woman was waiting for a bus near Ambedkar Setu on EM Bypass at approximately 8 pm on Friday. In a brazen act, she was forcibly pulled into a moving vehicle. The perpetrators then administered drugs to her.
The victim was subjected to molestation inside the car for about an hour before being abandoned. She was dumped in the Maidan area, where she was later found in a heavily drugged state. Authorities were alerted, and she was immediately transported to SSKM Hospital for medical attention. It was at the hospital that her formal statement was recorded, detailing the horrific ordeal.
Police Investigation and Manhunt
Based on the victim's complaint filed at the Pragati Maidan police station, a swift investigation was launched by the local police and the detective department. Law enforcement officials scoured footage from CCTV cameras at key intersections to piece together the sequence of events and identify the vehicle and suspects involved.
This investigative work led to the identification and arrest of Altaf Alam, a 24-year-old resident of the Garden Reach area. However, the police have confirmed that a total of three individuals were involved in this premeditated crime. A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the two remaining suspects.
In a significant development, the police are also verifying a crucial lead that suggests one of the culprits might be an acquaintance of the woman, which could point to a more targeted attack. The case continues to develop as investigators work to bring all those responsible to justice.
