Kolkata Woman Brutally Assaulted and Thrown from Moving Car in Behala

A shocking incident of violence unfolded on the streets of Kolkata's Behala area on Saturday night, where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly forced into a car by a friend, subjected to physical assault and molestation, and then callously thrown out of the moving vehicle on Diamond Harbour Road. The harrowing ordeal has sparked outrage and led to a swift police response, resulting in the arrest of the accused after a dramatic chase.

Details of the Alleged Assault and Police Intervention

According to police reports, the incident began around 5:30 PM when the woman, a resident of Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road (East) in Haridevpur, was allegedly picked up in a car by her 18-year-old friend, identified as Arnab Shaw. What started as an argument soon escalated into physical violence inside the moving vehicle as it travelled between Bagir Khal and Behala Chowrasta along Diamond Harbour Road.

In her detailed statement to the authorities, the victim claimed that Shaw wrongfully confined her inside the car while assaulting her with fists, blows, and kicks. She alleged that he hurled filthy abuses at her with the clear intent to insult her modesty and threatened her with dire consequences, creating a terrifying environment of fear and intimidation.

The situation reached a critical point when the woman was forcibly kicked out of the car at Behala Chowrasta, a notoriously busy stretch of road during peak evening hours. This reckless act left her injured and stranded amidst heavy traffic, drawing immediate attention from law enforcement.

Police Chase and Arrest of the Accused

The incident came to the attention of Kolkata Police around 8 PM when an alert traffic sergeant spotted the distressed woman on the road. Recognizing the severity of the situation, he immediately alerted other officers who sprang into action, launching a pursuit of the fleeing vehicle.

In a dramatic turn of events, police chased the car for more than 2 kilometers before successfully intercepting it at the crossing of Diamond Harbour Road and Banamali Naskar Road. Officers arrested Shaw, who was at the wheel, and seized the vehicle as evidence before transporting both to Behala Police Station for further investigation.

Shortly after the arrest, the woman arrived at the police station accompanied by her father and other family members. Her father subsequently lodged a formal written complaint detailing the entire sequence of events, providing crucial documentation for the legal proceedings.

Legal Proceedings and Bail Conditions

Arnab Shaw was produced before an Alipore court on Sunday, where he faced charges related to the alleged assault. The court granted him bail but imposed multiple stringent conditions to ensure his compliance with the legal process. Police officials confirmed these developments while emphasizing their commitment to pursuing justice in this disturbing case.

Important Note: In accordance with Supreme Court directives regarding cases of sexual assault, the identity of the victim has been carefully protected to safeguard her privacy and dignity during this challenging time.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about women's safety in urban areas and underscores the importance of prompt police response in such critical situations. The Kolkata Police's swift action in chasing down the vehicle and making an immediate arrest demonstrates their vigilance in addressing crimes against women, though questions remain about prevention and societal attitudes that enable such violence.
