In a powerful display of courage and presence of mind, a young woman in South Kolkata turned the tables on her alleged molester late on Sunday night. Refusing to be a silent victim, she enlisted the help of a neighbourhood food delivery agent and successfully chased down the accused on an empty street, leading to his arrest.

Midnight Confrontation on Empty Street

The incident unfolded around midnight in the Netaji Nagar area. According to police sources, the complainant was returning home from an event when the accused, identified as Rishi Hazra, suddenly appeared. He allegedly tried to molest her by touching her inappropriately before attempting to flee the scene.

Instead of freezing in fear, the woman immediately raised an alarm and began chasing him. Her quick thinking and refusal to back down set the stage for a remarkable citizen-led capture.

Chase on a Delivery Bike: An Unlikely Alliance

As the accused ran, the woman spotted a food delivery agent, whom she recognized from the locality, returning home on his motorcycle. She flagged him down, explained the situation, and hopped onto his bike to continue the pursuit.

While chasing the man, she strategically shouted "thief" to attract the attention of residents. Her cries alerted the neighbourhood, and soon a crowd began to gather on the street, making it impossible for the accused to escape.

After a short chase, the duo managed to corner and catch the alleged molester. The swift action of the woman and the delivery agent ensured the perpetrator was held until police arrived.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Officers from the Netaji Nagar Police Station reached the spot and took Rishi Hazra into custody. A formal case of molestation was registered based on the woman's complaint.

The accused was produced before the Alipore court on Monday. The hearing saw contrasting arguments from the legal counsels. The court subsequently sent the accused to judicial custody. Police are now investigating whether Rishi Hazra has been involved in similar or other criminal activities in the area. Investigators have also collected CCTV footage from the vicinity to strengthen the case.
