Woman Robbed of Precious Gold Chain in Santoshpur
A shocking incident of chain snatching has left residents of South Kolkata concerned about their safety. On Sunday evening, 33-year-old Hinal Bhowmick, a resident of Santoshpur Avenue, became the victim of a daring daylight robbery near her home.
The unfortunate event occurred when Bhowmick was chatting with neighbors close to her residence, near the popular Munna Tea Shop in Santoshpur. Without warning, an unidentified man approached her, violently snatched her gold chain, and made a swift escape on a blue sports bike.
Valuable Jewelry and Investigation Details
The stolen gold chain held significant financial and sentimental value for the victim. According to the official complaint, the chain weighed 10.5 grams and was valued at over Rs 1 lakh. It also featured a delicate, heart-shaped pendant that weighed approximately half a gram.
Bhowmick provided police with a description of the suspect, noting he was a healthy man with a dark complexion. The Survey Park Police Station has taken charge of the investigation and has made a crucial breakthrough. CCTV footage from the area has captured the bike's registration number, giving investigators a solid lead to pursue.
Pattern of Snatching Incidents Emerges in Kolkata
This terrifying experience is not an isolated case. Authorities confirm this marks the sixth chain snatching incident to occur within the city during this month alone. The timing raises serious concerns as police intelligence suggests a gang of four snatchers has become active in the Kasba-Tagore Park area, located just a few kilometers from where Bhowmick was attacked.
A high-ranking DD officer revealed that there's a strong possibility the same criminal group was responsible for similar incidents in Girish Park, Amherst Street, and Ultadanga. The police are now coordinating efforts across multiple stations to identify and apprehend the suspects before they can strike again.
