Violent Clash in Kolkata Over Theft from Beggars Leaves Two Injured

In a disturbing incident in Kolkata's Tiljala area, two youths sustained injuries after attempting to protest against a local criminal who was allegedly stealing money from beggars. The altercation escalated into violence, with one of the victims being stabbed with a chopper, highlighting concerns over street crime and public safety in the neighborhood.

Details of the Incident and Police Response

The accused, identified as Md Bilal from Topsia 1st Lane, is named in a complaint filed by Md Afzal Hossain, a resident of Rai Charan Ghosh Lane and one of the injured parties. According to the complaint, the incident began around 3 pm on Wednesday at 26, Rai Charan Ghosh Lane. Hossain alleged that Bilal was stealing money from beggars, and when he intervened to stop the theft, Bilal responded with abuse and physical assault, hitting Hossain in the face before fleeing the scene.

In a brazen move, Bilal returned to the location approximately seven hours later, around 10 pm, and resumed his abusive behavior. Hossain reported that Bilal threatened to shoot him and anyone who tried to intervene, escalating the tension. A neighbor, SK Azad, stepped in to de-escalate the situation, asking Bilal not to create a nuisance. However, Bilal allegedly turned violent, charging at both Azad and Hossain with a stick before pulling out a chopper and stabbing Azad, narrowly missing Hossain.
