Kozhikode Police Crack Down on Major Drug Trafficking Network
In a significant breakthrough, the Kozhikode police have successfully dismantled a wholesale drug trafficking network operating within the city, leading to the arrest of a married couple allegedly at the center of the illicit operation. The arrested individuals have been identified as 32-year-old Irfan, a native of Naduvattam, and his 22-year-old wife, T C Narfana.
Investigation Triggered by MDMA Seizure
The couple first came under the radar of law enforcement authorities during a comprehensive probe initiated last month. This investigation was launched following the seizure of a substantial quantity of 200 grams of MDMA, a potent synthetic drug, by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (Dansaf) in collaboration with the Medical College police. The seizure acted as a critical catalyst, prompting a deeper dive into the city's underground drug trade.
Financial Transactions and Operational Tactics
According to detailed police reports, the duo employed sophisticated methods to conceal their activities. Financial transactions linked to the drug operation were strategically routed through Narfana's personal bank account. Authorities believe this was a deliberate tactic to avoid raising suspicion, leveraging her legitimate employment as a beautician to mask the illicit cash flows. This layer of financial obfuscation complicated the initial stages of the investigation.
Supply Chain and Distribution Network
Investigators revealed that Irfan was allegedly the primary orchestrator, sourcing synthetic drugs, including MDMA, from major cities such as Bengaluru and Delhi. He then distributed these substances through an extensive network of retail peddlers operating across Kozhikode. This supply chain enabled the widespread dissemination of drugs within the community, highlighting the scale of the operation.
Use of Forged Documents and SIM Cards
In a further twist, the police uncovered that Irfan had procured approximately 10 mobile SIM cards using forged identity documents. This discovery points to a calculated effort to maintain anonymity and evade surveillance, common tactics in organized drug trafficking rings. The use of multiple SIM cards likely facilitated communication within the network while hindering law enforcement tracking efforts.
