Kozhikode: Suicide Pact Exposed as Murder, Accused Arrested

Kozhikode Woman's Death Unmasked as Brutal Murder and Rape

In a shocking revelation from Kozhikode, police have confirmed that the death of a 26-year-old woman, initially suspected as suicide, was actually a premeditated murder and rape. The incident occurred on Saturday at Morikkara near Elathur, with authorities arresting a 35-year-old man, identified as Vaishakan, a native of Thadambattuthazham.

Deceptive Suicide Pact Leads to Tragic End

According to police reports, the accused convinced the woman that they would commit suicide together. Vaishakan, who is married and has two children, had allegedly been sexually assaulting the victim since she was 16 years old. This long-term abuse has led to an additional case being registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Elaborate Planning and Execution of the Crime

Police detailed how Vaishakan laid a trap at his industrial unit, making the woman believe they were following through with a suicide pact. He had prepared two ropes to maintain the illusion of a joint suicide. The accused gave the woman juice laced with sleeping pills, while he consumed a minimal amount to appear compliant. After she was sedated, Vaishakan placed a rope around her neck, made her stand on a stool, and then kicked it away, pulling her down.

In a particularly gruesome twist, police stated that the accused sexually assaulted the woman while she was struggling for life. He repeated this act after cutting down the rope and removing her body. The investigation revealed that Vaishakan feared the woman would expose their relationship to his family, which allegedly motivated the murder.

Police Investigation Uncovers the Truth

The case was initially registered as an unnatural death, but Elathur inspector K.R. Ranjith grew suspicious during the preliminary investigation. His detailed follow-up probe led to Vaishakan's arrest, turning the case on its head. Investigators noted that the accused had planned to destroy the CCTV hard disk at the industrial unit to erase evidence. However, police had sealed the premises due to suspicions of foul play, preserving crucial footage that later proved instrumental in the investigation.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Following the incident, Vaishakan allegedly informed his wife over the phone that the woman had committed suicide. They then took her to a hospital in a car, where the accused was also admitted after complaining of physical discomfort. A dedicated police team, led by Elathur SHO K.R. Ranjith and including SIs Sahad, Harish Kumar V.T., Biju, Prajukumar, and ASI Biju, is currently probing the case to ensure justice is served.

This case highlights the importance of thorough police work in uncovering heinous crimes disguised as suicides, bringing a measure of closure to the victim's family and the community.
