Krishnagiri Cricket Rivalry Escalates into Fatal Stabbing, Four Suspects Apprehended
In a tragic escalation of a month-long feud originating from a cricket match, a 19-year-old youth was brutally murdered in Krishnagiri town on Tuesday evening. The victim, identified as Akash, a resident of Jyothi Vinayagar Koil Street who worked as a daily wage earner, succumbed to stab wounds after being attacked by a rival group. Police authorities swiftly responded to the incident, arresting four individuals on Wednesday in connection with the homicide.
Origins of the Conflict: A Cricket Match Dispute
The deadly confrontation traces its roots back to a quarrel that erupted approximately one month ago during a cricket match at the Palayapettai Government Boys Higher Secondary School ground. Akash was part of one group that clashed with another faction, sparking an ongoing rivalry that persisted through repeated confrontations in the weeks that followed.
The situation intensified dramatically on Monday when Abreet, a 19-year-old member of the opposing group, was assaulted near Akash's residence. Police officials confirmed that Abreet sustained injuries in this attack and was subsequently admitted to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The perpetrators of this initial assault remain unidentified at this time.
The Fatal Confrontation: A Petrol Bunk Attack
Enraged by the attack on their associate, Abreet's friends embarked on a search for Akash. They located him at a petrol bunk situated near the Old Housing Board Colony on Tuesday evening. According to police reports from the Krishnagiri town police station, the group confronted Akash, leading to a physical altercation.
"During the ensuing fight, Akash was stabbed with a knife," stated a police officer involved in the investigation. Despite immediate efforts by local residents to transport him to a private hospital, Akash tragically died while en route to receive medical attention.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Law enforcement officials recovered the victim's body and arranged for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police have registered a formal case and taken decisive action by arresting four suspects identified as:
- Shakool, aged 19
- Noorullah, aged 19
- Shanawas, aged 29
- Purushothkumar, aged 25
All four individuals are residents of Mahendra Nagar and have been remanded to judicial custody following their apprehension. Additionally, police authorities revealed they are currently questioning three more suspects as part of their ongoing investigation into the murder case.
