Man Arrested in Krishnagiri for Illegal Deer Hunting and Meat Distribution
In a significant crackdown on wildlife crime, a 43-year-old man was arrested in Krishnagiri district on Sunday for allegedly hunting deer, storing its meat, and supplying it to his customers. The forest department identified the arrested individual as Perumal, a resident of Pallathur village, located on the border of the Ilavambadi forest near Uthangarai.
Surprise Raid Uncovers Evidence of Wildlife Poaching
Acting on a tip-off, forest personnel conducted a surprise search at Perumal's house, where they seized spotted deer meat and two deer heads. The forest department's intelligence unit had received information indicating that Perumal was repeatedly entering the forest area to hunt wild animals, prompting immediate action.
Hosur district forest officer (DFO) K Rajangam ordered a task force to investigate the matter. The team, formed under the guidance of forest officer Muniyappan and comprising Uthangarai forest officer Subash and Kallavi forest officer Narayanan, surrounded Perumal's house at an unexpected time to conduct the search.
Investigation Reveals Door-to-Door Delivery Service
During the search, officials discovered the meat and deer heads, which were reportedly kept for sale. The investigation further revealed that Perumal had been operating a discreet door delivery service to supply the deer meat to his customers, highlighting a systematic illegal trade operation.
The forest department has registered a case against Perumal and is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. Following his arrest, Perumal was produced before the Uthangarai subcourt and subsequently lodged at the Krishnagiri subjail under judicial custody.
Strict Warnings Issued Against Wildlife Crimes
In response to this incident, the forest department has issued a stern warning, emphasizing that individuals involved in hunting wild animals, selling, or buying their meat will face strict legal action under the Goondas Act. This move aims to deter similar activities and protect local wildlife from poaching and illegal trade.
The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat wildlife crimes in the region, with officials urging the public to report any suspicious activities to help preserve biodiversity and enforce conservation laws.
