The state-run Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) in Mysuru is facing fresh controversy over allegations that the proceedings of a board of management (BoM) meeting were recorded inaccurately, deviating from the actual discussions. Vice Chancellor Sharanappa V Halse has denied these allegations.
Board Members Raise Concerns
According to sources within the university, seven BoM members have expressed their concerns in a letter addressed to the VC. They have requested video recordings of the entire meeting held on April 18 and warned that they may lodge a complaint with the Lokayukta if transparency is not ensured. The members urged the VC to publish the meeting proceedings online to maintain accountability.
Allegations of Irregularities
The members claim that during the meeting, they raised objections to several proposed construction works worth crores, printing of learning materials, renovation of the university guest house kitchen in Mysuru, installation of LED display boards on campus, procurement of printing materials, and hiring of housekeeping and security staff. During the debate, one of the MLAs reportedly criticized university officials, stating that a new building could be constructed with the estimated cost for renovations.
“Most proposals involved substantial sums, and the matter was brought to the state government’s attention,” a KSOU officer explained.
Demand for Inquiry
Sources indicate that this incident has raised questions about decision-making at the university. “The BoM is the highest decision-making body. If meeting decisions are altered, the state government must order a police inquiry,” another officer said.
VC Denies Allegations
VC Halse refuted all accusations, stating, “Meeting minutes cannot be changed. They are recorded properly and cannot be tweaked.” He emphasized that the university follows due process in documenting proceedings.
