Pudukottai: A land surveyor attached to the Thirumayam taluk office was arrested by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday for taking a bribe from a resident seeking a land survey. The accused, Selvaraj, 35, a resident of Keeramangalam, was working as a land surveyor.
Complaint and Trap
Balamurugan had approached him to survey two plots of land at Thulaiyanur near Thirumayam that were registered in his mother's name. Selvaraj demanded Rs 14,000, charging Rs 7,000 for each plot, to carry out the survey without delay. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Balamurugan lodged a complaint with the DVAC. Officials arranged a trap.
Arrest and Action
Following their instructions, Balamurugan handed over tainted currency notes to Selvaraj at the land surveyor's office. The accused accepted the money, following which a DVAC team caught him red-handed. Selvaraj was arrested and will be produced before a court.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the DVAC to curb corruption in government offices. Citizens are encouraged to report any such demands to the authorities.
