A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed on Wednesday in an anti-terror operation by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said. The operation, which lasted five days, culminated in the neutralisation of the terrorist in a dense orchard in the Meemandar area.
Operation Details
Security forces launched the search operation in the Meemandar area, which comprises seven villages, in the south Kashmir district on July 3. A joint team of police, Army's 55 RR and 44 RR, and CRPF maintained a tight cordon around the area over the last five days, with intermittent exchanges of fire between the two sides.
"You Can Run But You Can't Hide! One Lashkar terrorist neutralised by SOG Shopian, in a Jt Op, along with RR and CRPF," the J-K Police said in a post on X.
Identification and Impact
The officials had earlier identified the trapped terrorists as Latif and Zakir. However, only one terrorist was confirmed killed in the encounter. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to eliminate militant threats in the Kashmir Valley.
Security Measures
The operation involved multiple agencies, including the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The coordinated effort reflects the comprehensive approach adopted by security forces to counter militancy in the region.
The encounter in Shopian is part of a series of anti-terror operations conducted in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain peace and security. The successful neutralisation of the LeT terrorist is a significant achievement for the security forces, who have been actively working to dismantle terrorist networks in the area.
