In Sivaganga, a late-night visit by three individuals claiming to be police officers to the residence of Ajith Kumar, who died in police custody last year, caused alarm among his family members on Tuesday.
Police Clarify Incident
A senior police official from the district informed the Times of India that the three personnel were from Karuppayurani in Madurai district and were searching for an accused in a case reported there. The official emphasized that the officers were unaware that the house belonged to Ajith Kumar.
Family's Account
Speaking to the Times of India, Ajith Kumar's brother, Naveen Kumar, recounted the incident. He said that around 2:30 am, someone knocked on the door. "My mother and I went to see, and there were three police officers asking for someone's address. They said the address was near our house, and we responded, after which they left. They also inquired with our neighbors," he said.
In fear, Naveen Kumar reported the incident to the station inspector in the morning. The inspector reassured him, stating that there was nothing to worry about and that the officers had randomly come to inquire about the address of an absconding accused.
Background
Ajith Kumar died in police custody last year, and his family has been living in fear since. The unexpected visit reignited their trauma, though authorities have clarified it was a case of mistaken identity.
