A tragic incident in Latur district has resulted in the death of a bar owner after he refused to serve alcohol past closing time. The assault, which occurred in Naigaon village, led to the swift arrest of three individuals.
Details of the Fatal Assault
The incident took place on the night between Friday and Saturday in Naigaon village, located within the Chakur taluka of Latur district. The victim, Gajanan Kasle (42), a resident of Naigaon, was the owner of the bar. According to police reports, three men forcibly entered the establishment as it was closing and demanded liquor and cigarettes.
When Kasle refused their request, citing the late hour and closing time, the situation turned violent. The accused began abusing him, issued death threats, and then launched a brutal attack using wooden sticks and clubs. The assault focused on his head and body, causing severe injuries. Kasle collapsed on the spot and died before any medical help could arrive.
The attackers also turned on a waiter, Ajay More (28) from Ajni village in Ahmedpur taluka, leaving him seriously injured. Before fleeing the scene, they vandalised the bar's television set and stole approximately Rs 15,000 in cash from the counter, along with several bottles of foreign liquor.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
The case was registered at the Chakur police station based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother, Balaji Kasle (37). Latur Superintendent of Police Atul Tambe confirmed the launch of an investigation, which is being led by Inspector Balaji Bhande.
Through a coordinated effort involving the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Chakur police, authorities scanned CCTV footage and acted on specific intelligence. Inspector Sudhakar Bawkar stated that this prompt action led to the arrest of all three accused within just five hours of the crime.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Maruti alias Bablu Hariba Boyne, Santosh Ram Telange, and Sagar Hanmant Boyne, all residents of Dhaveli village in Renapur taluka. Police indicated that the preliminary investigation points to the refusal of service as the trigger for the fatal assault.
Legal Proceedings and Custody
On Sunday, the accused were produced before a local magistrate. The court has remanded them to six days of police custody to aid in further investigation. The police continue to probe the case to uncover any additional details or motives behind the extreme violence.
