Lawyer Foils Burglary Attempt by Locking Intruders in Room in Neemuch
In a dramatic incident in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, a burglary attempt at the residence of High Court Advocate Surendra Patwa was thwarted on Tuesday afternoon, though the suspects ultimately managed to escape. The event unfolded in Teacher Colony, where Patwa successfully locked two intruders inside a room, only for them to break free later.
Repeated Targeting of the Same Residence
This burglary attempt is the latest in a troubling series of thefts at Patwa's home, which has been targeted four times over the past two years. According to the advocate, previous incidents resulted in the loss of valuables worth lakhs of rupees, including jewellery and cash. Notably, a major theft of approximately Rs 30 lakh was reported at his residence in October of last year, highlighting the persistent security concerns.
How the Incident Unfolded
Patwa was in his home office when he heard suspicious movements from the rear of the house. Upon investigation, he spotted two unknown youths inside the premises. Reacting swiftly, he pushed them into a room and locked it from the outside. He then went out to alert neighbours and seek assistance.
While trapped, the suspects allegedly caused chaos inside the room, scattering belongings and rummaging through cupboards. After nearly an hour, they forced the door open with repeated kicks and escaped before locals could gather. In their haste to flee, they left their slippers behind, which were recovered from the scene.
Police Response and Investigation
Cantonment police station in-charge Nilesh Awasthi arrived at the spot with a team after receiving information about the incident. CCTV cameras installed in the colony captured clear visuals of the two suspects, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
Police stated that teams are actively scanning the footage and have initiated a search based on the physical descriptions of the suspects. Efforts are underway to apprehend them soon, with authorities emphasizing the seriousness of the repeated targeting.
Broader Implications and Security Concerns
This incident raises significant questions about home security and the effectiveness of prior complaints in preventing such crimes. Patwa expressed frustration over the repeated burglaries despite earlier reports to the police, underscoring the need for enhanced vigilance and preventive measures in residential areas.
As the investigation continues, residents in Teacher Colony and surrounding neighbourhoods are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
