Leather trader dies, wife hurt in Kanpur bike crash

Kanpur: A 45-year-old leather trader was killed and his wife seriously injured when their motorcycle lost balance and crashed into a divider in the Ahirwan area of Chakeri on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Manoj Kumar, a resident of Ruma.

Manoj is survived by his wife Prema, son Shiva (17), and daughters Shruti (15) and Shubhi (13). According to reports, Manoj and his wife Prema had visited relatives in Naubasta on Tuesday morning and were returning home in the afternoon when the motorcycle went out of control and struck the divider near Ahirwan, close to the Ramadevi flyover.

Passersby found the couple lying injured on the road and alerted the police. A team from Chakeri police station reached the spot and rushed them to Kanshiram Hospital, where doctors declared Manoj Kumar dead on arrival. Prema, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital for advanced treatment.

Eyewitnesses said Manoj was wearing a helmet, but it reportedly came off during the crash. The impact caused severe head and multiple bodily injuries, leading to his death.

Station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said the body has been sent for postmortem and further legal proceedings are underway.
