Life Imprisonment for Brutal Friend Murder in Mohali

The District Sessions Court in Mohali has delivered a stern verdict, sentencing a Panchkula resident to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his friend during a petty argument over liquor payment. The court found Ajay guilty of striking Rajveer with an iron rod, leading to his tragic death.

The Fateful Night That Ended in Tragedy

According to District Attorney Hardeep Singh Kahlon, the incident occurred on February 5, 2023, in Sector 117, TDI, Mohali. The victim, Rajveer, worked as a painter alongside his brothers and lived in a rented accommodation in the area.

The three men - Vijay (Rajveer's elder brother), Rajveer, and the convict Ajay - had been working together as painters. After completing their work that day, they returned home and began preparing food. The situation took a turn when Vijay received a family call and left for Panchkula.

Later that evening, around 10 PM, a dispute erupted between the two remaining friends. The argument began when Rajveer asked Ajay to pay for liquor they had consumed. What started as a simple request quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.

The Brutal Attack and Aftermath

Enraged by the demand for payment, Ajay lost his temper and picked up an iron rod. In a fit of anger, he struck Rajveer on the head with the weapon. The blow proved to be fatal. After committing the violent act, Ajay fled the scene, leaving his friend critically injured.

The next morning, Vijay returned to the accommodation and made a horrifying discovery. He found his brother Rajveer lying unconscious. Immediately recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Vijay rushed Rajveer to the Government Hospital in Mani Majra.

Despite medical efforts, doctors at the hospital declared Rajveer dead upon examination. The medical professionals confirmed that the head injury caused by the iron rod attack had resulted in his death.

Legal Proceedings and Final Verdict

Following the discovery of the crime, Balongi police registered a murder case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation led to Ajay's arrest, and the evidence gathered during the probe formed the basis of the prosecution's case.

District and Sessions Judge Atul Karsana presided over the case and delivered the verdict after examining all evidence and witness testimonies. The court found Ajay guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

In addition to the life term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. The judgment specified that in default of payment of this fine, Ajay would serve an additional six months in prison.

The case highlights how trivial disputes among friends can sometimes escalate into tragic outcomes, resulting in irreversible consequences for all parties involved. The verdict serves as a reminder that violent actions carry severe legal repercussions.
