Aligarh Court Delivers Life Sentences in 13-Year-Old Murder Case
In a significant verdict, a court in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the abduction and murder of an animal trader that occurred over a decade ago. The three convicts, aged between 40 and 45, were found guilty of the 2012 crime that shocked the local community in Nagla Mansingh village.
Court Imposes Fines Alongside Life Terms
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Nawal Kishore Singh not only handed down life imprisonment sentences but also imposed a substantial fine of Rs 30,000 on each of the three convicted individuals. Additional District Government Counsel KM Johari confirmed the details of the judgment on Friday, marking the culmination of a lengthy legal process that spanned 13 years.
Tragic Events of September 2012
The case dates back to September 2, 2012, when 35-year-old Chob Singh, a resident of Nagla Mansingh village under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Park police station, was returning home after a successful day at the Quarsi cattle market. Singh had just sold buffaloes and was carrying Rs 80,000 in cash from the transaction.
Around 3:30 PM, near an old bridge, Singh encountered three fellow villagers: Kishan Veer, Rakesh, and Roop Kishor, all daily wage laborers. The men reportedly took Singh to a liquor shop near the Kamalpur bypass where they drank together. When Singh failed to return home that evening, his concerned family immediately filed a missing person report with local authorities.
Discovery and Investigation
The tragic outcome became clear on September 5, 2012, when reports emerged about an unidentified body at the local mortuary. Singh's family identified the deceased as their missing relative, Chob Singh. Medical examination revealed multiple injuries on the body, indicating that the victim had been brutally beaten to death.
Based on a formal complaint filed by the deceased's wife, Vimlesh Devi, police registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code:
- Section 302 for murder
- Section 364 for kidnapping
- Section 201 for disappearance of evidence
Following a thorough investigation, authorities arrested the three accused individuals, who were subsequently sent to jail to await trial.
Legal Proceedings and Final Judgment
The case proceeded through the judicial system for more than a decade before reaching its conclusion. The court carefully examined all evidence presented by both the prosecution and defense, including witness testimonies and forensic findings.
"After hearing both sides and examining witnesses and evidence, the court convicted the three men on Thursday evening," stated Additional District Government Counsel KM Johari, confirming the legal basis for the judgment.
The conviction represents a significant achievement for the prosecution team and brings a measure of closure to the victim's family after years of waiting for justice. The case highlights the persistence of India's judicial system in pursuing justice even in cases that span many years, demonstrating that serious crimes do not fade from legal attention with the passage of time.
