Life-Term Inmate Marries in Meerut on 10-Hour Parole

Meerut: A decade after murdering a Delhi-based businessman and five members of his family, Tihar Jail inmate Mohd Wajid, who is serving a life term, was brought to Meerut on a 10-hour parole for his ‘nikah’ in the city. Now 45, Wajid married Yasmeen, a relative in Meerut’s Pawti Afzalpur village, before being taken back to Tihar Jail by Delhi Police.

Background of the Crime

In 2017, the brutal murder of Muslim Tyagi and his family in the Burari area had shocked Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. According to investigators, the victims were associated with a furniture business in Delhi. Wajid and his associates were accused of murdering the businessman and his two sons before burying their bodies inside a pit dug in the family’s house in the national capital.

Police further said that the businessman’s wife and two daughters were later taken towards Muzaffarnagar and killed on the way. Their bodies were buried near the Kali river in the Daurala area of Meerut.

Investigation and Conviction

The murders came to light about a week later when Delhi Police cracked the case and found three bodies in Delhi and fished out three more from the Kali river in Daurala, following the accused’s confession. After the trial, the court convicted Wajid and sentenced him to life in prison. He has since been lodged in Tihar Jail.

Parole and Ceremony

Circle officer Prakash Chandra Agrawal said on Tuesday: “Convict, Mohd Wajid, was brought to Meerut on the basis of a court-approved parole and was taken immediately back to Delhi after completion of the ceremony.” The entire process was closely monitored by Delhi Police personnel to ensure security and compliance with court orders.
