Liquor Smuggler Rams Police Vehicle, Escapes in Bhopal

Bhopal: A suspected liquor smuggler escaped after ramming his car into a vehicle placed at a police checking point in Saket Nagar on Tuesday evening. Govindpura police have launched a search operation and are tracking the accused based on the vehicle's registration number.

Incident Details

According to police, they had received a tip-off that a white car carrying a consignment of illegal liquor was heading from Mandideep towards Awadhpuri via Saket Nagar. Acting on the information, Govindpura police set up a checking point and strategically parked a private vehicle on the road to prevent the suspect from speeding away.

As the car approached the checkpoint, the driver allegedly realized that police had laid a trap and attempted to flee. In the process, he rammed the front portion of the parked vehicle and managed to drive through the blockade before escaping from the spot.

Police Response

Govindpura SHO Awadhesh Singh Tomar said police teams were immediately alerted, and efforts were initiated to trace the vehicle. The registration number of the car was noted during the incident, and preliminary verification revealed that the vehicle is registered in the name of an Awadhpuri-based man, who is reportedly known to police in connection with liquor smuggling activities.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and conducting raids at possible hideouts to locate the car driver. It is yet to be confirmed whether the vehicle was carrying liquor at the time of the incident. Further investigation is underway.
