Notorious Liquor Smuggler Vikas Soran Arrested in Haryana, Sent to Jail in Azamgarh
A notorious liquor smuggler and gangster, Vikas Soran, has been arrested and subsequently sent to jail in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, following a significant police operation. Vikas Soran was apprehended by a joint team comprising the Mehnagar police and the Prayagraj field unit of the Special Task Force (STF). After his arrest in Haryana, he was brought to Azamgarh on transit remand and produced before a court, which ordered his incarceration. Police officials confirmed that the search for Soran had intensified recently, particularly as evidence mounted regarding his role in facilitating gangs that procure liquor from Haryana for smuggling into Bihar.
Cash Rewards and Police Investigation
The DIG of the Azamgarh range had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to Soran's capture, while the SP had set a reward of Rs 25,000. According to authorities, the breakthrough in the case came during the investigation of a liquor consignment seized on February 15, 2023. This consignment was being smuggled to Bihar by a gang led by Sunil Punia from Sirsa, Haryana. Further probes established that Vikas Soran played a pivotal role in coordinating the transportation of illegal liquor for this gang.

Following the investigation, police filed a chargesheet in the smuggling case based on collected evidence. Additionally, a case under the Gangsters Act was registered against the gang members involved.
