A loco pilot was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants near Tatanagar station in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur, a senior police officer said on Monday. G K Gautam was shot from close range by two motorcycle-borne assailants around 12.30 am, according to news agency PTI.

The loco pilot, who hailed from Bihar, was rushed to the Railway Hospital nearby, where he succumbed to his injuries, the officer said. SP (City) Lalit Meena said police have recovered empty cartridges from the spot and are examining CCTV footage to trace the culprits.
Possible Motive
Meena said preliminary investigation indicates a land-related dispute as the possible cause of the killing, though the exact reason has not been confirmed yet. “We are investigating the case from all possible angles,” the SP added. Police are also looking into other motives and have formed teams to apprehend the suspects.
The incident has raised concerns about security near railway stations. Authorities have assured strict action against the perpetrators. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
