Indore: The Lokayukta police on Friday apprehended a government school principal and nodal officer while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for resolving a complaint lodged against a private school.
Rajkumar Chelani, principal of Gove Higher Secondary School Boys No. 1, Sanyogitaganj, was caught in a trap set by the Lokayukta team following a complaint filed by Ravi Jaiswal, director of The International Convent School.
According to Lokayukta officials, Jaiswal had approached Superintendent of Police Rajesh Sahay, alleging that Chelani was demanding Rs 10,000 to dispose of a complaint filed by a parent against his school. Acting on the complaint, the Lokayukta conducted a verification exercise, during which the demand for the bribe was confirmed.
On Friday, Chelani allegedly instructed the complainant to come to the school premises with the money. As soon as he accepted the Rs 10,000 from Jaiswal, the Lokayukta team, led by Inspector Pratibha Tomar and Head Constable Ashish Shukla, caught him red-handed.
A case was registered against Chelani under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
