Prime Suspect in Bhubaneswar Love Triangle Murder Surrenders to Police
In a significant development in the Bhubaneswar murder case, prime suspect Dinesh alias Dinabandhu Nayak surrendered before police authorities in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday. This surrender comes just one day after car driver Satyabrata Pradhan was allegedly murdered in what police describe as a triangular love affair situation that turned violent.
Police Investigation and Criminal History
Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagmohan Meena confirmed that Nayak is currently under interrogation. "We are interrogating him," stated DCP Meena, while police sources revealed that Nayak has a prior criminal record with two previous cases registered against him.
"We have come to know about his criminal history. The nature of cases against him is being verified," added the DCP, indicating that investigators are thoroughly examining Nayak's background as part of their comprehensive probe into the murder.
Details of the Fatal Confrontation
According to police reconstruction of events, the fatal incident occurred at the residence of a woman in Sailashree Vihar area. Pradhan, who hailed from Puri's Brahmagiri district, was allegedly killed during a confrontation with Nayak over their involvement with the same woman.
The woman, who is also being interrogated by authorities, has pleaded innocence in the matter. She told investigators that Nayak attacked Pradhan with a knife following a heated argument, slashing his throat despite her attempts to intervene and stop the violence.
Following the attack, the woman claimed she immediately called for an ambulance and alerted neighbors to the emergency situation, though these claims are being verified by investigating officers.
CCTV Evidence and Ongoing Verification
On Tuesday, crucial CCTV footage surfaced showing Pradhan running while clutching his neck, with both Nayak and the woman following closely behind him. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Zone-VI) Sonali Singh Parmar stated: "We are verifying the CCTV footage and circumstances to determine the criminal culpability of both the woman and Nayak."
This visual evidence has become a key component of the investigation as police work to establish the precise sequence of events and determine the extent of involvement of all parties present during the fatal incident.
Background of the Relationship Dynamics
Police sources have uncovered additional details about the relationships involved. The woman's rented house in Sailashree Vihar had been arranged by Nayak, who had introduced himself to the landlord as her husband. Nayak was reportedly employed with a real estate company at the time of the incident.
Though the woman lived alone, Nayak—who resided nearby—frequently visited her residence. Investigators have learned that Nayak apparently suspected her of being involved in another relationship, which prompted him to devise a plan to confirm his suspicions.
The Planned Surveillance and Fatal Encounter
To test his suspicions, Nayak told the woman he would be away from Bhubaneswar for an entire week, while secretly monitoring her movements and activities. This surveillance culminated on Sunday night when he allegedly spotted Pradhan arriving at her home in a car.
Seizing what he perceived as confirmation of his suspicions, Nayak confronted the pair, leading to panic and a violent altercation that ultimately ended in Pradhan's death. The confrontation escalated rapidly, with the argument turning physical and resulting in the fatal knife attack.
The investigation continues as police piece together the complete timeline of events, verify all witness statements, and examine the criminal backgrounds of those involved. Authorities are particularly focused on establishing the precise motive and determining whether premeditation played a role in the violent outcome of this complex interpersonal conflict.
