The Central Bar Association, Lucknow, on Sunday declared a three-day collective strike by lawyers across all Lucknow district courts in response to the alleged police lathicharge on advocates during a demolition-related clash earlier in the day. The decision was reached during an emergency general body meeting chaired by Central Bar Association president Akhilesh Jaiswal.
Strike Details and Meeting Resolution
According to the resolution passed unanimously by thousands of advocates present at the meeting, all lawyers practising in Lucknow district courts will observe a complete strike from May 18 to May 20. The meeting also announced that another general body meeting will be convened on May 20 at 2 pm, with invitations extended to office-bearers of all bar associations in Lucknow district.
Authorized Representatives and Legal Action
The Central Bar Association authorized its president, Akhilesh Jaiswal, and general secretary, Avneesh Dixit, to intervene in the matter currently pending before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. This step aims to ensure legal recourse for the aggrieved advocates.
Financial Assistance for Injured Advocates
Another proposal passed during the meeting stated that advocates injured in the alleged lathicharge and admitted to hospitals would be provided financial assistance. The association emphasized its commitment to supporting affected members during this period.
Dissemination of Resolutions
The resolutions have been forwarded to the district judge, chief judicial magistrate, divisional commissioner, district magistrate, and office-bearers of several bar associations and tribunals across Lucknow for implementation and support. The association seeks solidarity from all legal fraternities in the district.
