A 36-year-old service manager succumbed to injuries after being struck on the head by a sack of construction debris allegedly thrown from the second floor of a hotel in Lucknow on Tuesday morning, according to police. The incident took place around 8 am in the Vasundhara Vihar locality of Naubasta Kala under the Chinhat police station limits.
Victim Identified
The deceased was identified as Anoop Kumar Singh, a resident of Kundouli village in Deoria district. He was employed as a service manager at a Maruti showroom near IT Chauraha. Police and family members stated that Singh was walking to work when he passed a hotel owned by Vishal Tiwari. Labourers and staff were clearing hardened cement and rubble from the premises at that time.
How the Incident Occurred
Investigators revealed that sacks filled with broken cement were being thrown down from the second floor without ensuring the area below was clear. One sack allegedly fell directly on Singh's head, causing critical injuries. He collapsed at the spot and was rushed by local residents to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Action and Family's Demand
Police detained the hotel owner for questioning and sent the body for postmortem. Singh's brother alleged negligence, attempts to clean the scene, and pressure for a compromise. The family demanded strict action and compensation of Rs 50 lakh. Police confirmed that a case is being registered and the investigation is ongoing.
