Lucknow Grapples with Escalating Chinese Kite String Incidents
In a distressing recurrence of the Chinese kite string menace, a motorcyclist in Lucknow sustained a significant cut on his nose after encountering a sharp manjha in the Thakurganj area on Sunday. The incident, which required immediate medical attention, narrowly avoided turning into a more severe accident, highlighting the persistent danger posed by these hazardous strings in the city.
Recent Cases Highlight Growing Threat
This latest episode follows a series of similar injuries reported over the past few days. On Saturday, Vimlesh Tiwari, the secretary of the Yahiyaganj Udyog Vyapar Mandal, was injured by a kite string while returning home around 6 pm near Kudiaghat. The string struck him, resulting in a nose cut that necessitated hospital treatment before he was discharged.
In another alarming case, a young bike rider was hurt while traveling towards Chowk to deliver an order. The kite string became entangled in his helmet, causing a nose injury that required care at a local clinic. Additionally, on the same day, a motorcyclist suffered a neck injury in the Chowk area, further underscoring the widespread risk.
Earlier Incidents and a Fatal Outcome
The pattern of injuries extends back to earlier this month. On February 5, an electricity worker sustained a throat injury in Gomtinagar Extension due to a kite string. Just hours before that, a retired soldier experienced cuts on his cheek and lip on Shaheed Path. Tragically, on February 4, a man lost his life in Old Lucknow in a similar manjha-related incident, marking a fatal escalation in this ongoing public safety issue.
These repeated occurrences point to an urgent need for increased awareness and preventive measures to curb the menace of Chinese kite strings in Lucknow. Authorities and residents are urged to remain vigilant, especially during kite-flying seasons, to prevent further harm and potential fatalities from these dangerous materials.
