The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Monday apprehended Gangaram Yadav, a suspect carrying a Rs 1 lakh bounty, in connection with the sensational murder of a property dealer in Lucknow. This arrest has cracked a crucial link in the conspiracy, while the contract shooters hired for Rs 10 lakh remain at large.
Gangaram, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, was nabbed near Alambagh bus station following a tip-off. Investigators revealed that he acted as the pivotal intermediary connecting the alleged masterminds with the hired gunmen who executed the killing of Sandeep Singh on May 27.
According to the STF, Gangaram arranged two shooters from Ambedkar Nagar after being approached by property dealer Dinesh Kumar Yadav, identified as the mastermind, and his driver Mubeen. Both Dinesh and Mubeen were arrested on May 31. During interrogation, Gangaram allegedly admitted to brokering the deal and facilitating contact between the conspirators and the shooters for Rs 10 lakh.
Probe findings indicate that the murder stemmed from a prolonged and bitter property dispute between the victim and Dinesh. Investigators said the plan was meticulously executed, with the shooters provided shelter at Dinesh’s Aashiana residence, which was used as a base for reconnaissance before the attack. Police stated that the assailants conducted repeated surveillance runs using a second-hand white motorcycle purchased from Aminabad and fitted with a fake registration plate. The vehicle was allegedly used to track Singh’s daily routine, movements, and routes leading up to the murder.
STF officials added that logistical support, including accommodation and local assistance, was arranged to ensure the smooth execution of the plot. Mubeen is suspected to have played a key role in identifying the victim and relaying his movements. To deflect suspicion, the accused allegedly created alibis around the Bakrid period, ensuring they were away from Lucknow on the day of the crime.
During the probe, STF teams recovered fake number plates, mobile phones, cash, and four vehicles, including high-end SUVs and a Mercedes, believed to have been used in planning and execution. One Toyota Fortuner bore a sticker identifying its occupant as a senior office-bearer of a political outfit.
Police said a search is ongoing for the arrest of the two shooters involved in the case.
