In a significant development, Lucknow police successfully arrested two alleged chain snatchers after a brief encounter in the Ghazipur area, specifically near Indirnagar, during the early hours of Sunday. The operation resulted in one of the accused sustaining a bullet injury to his leg, marking a dramatic conclusion to the police chase.

According to official statements from the Lucknow Police, this operation was conducted as a collaborative effort between the Ghazipur police station team and the East Zone Crime Branch. The incident unfolded near Bandha Road Mazaar during what was described as a routine checking drive on February 21.
DCP (East) Shashank Singh provided detailed insights into the sequence of events. He explained that the suspects were spotted riding a stolen scooter, moving from the direction of Kalyan Apartment towards the Shakti Nagar slope. When police personnel signaled them to stop, the duo attempted to flee the scene, leading to a high-speed chase.
Dramatic Chase and Exchange of Fire
During the pursuit, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and fell onto the road, creating a critical moment in the operation. It was at this point that the pillion rider, in a desperate attempt to evade capture, opened fire at the pursuing police team. This aggressive action escalated the situation, prompting the police to respond in self-defense.
The exchange of fire resulted in one of the alleged chain snatchers sustaining a bullet injury to his leg. Following this, both individuals were swiftly apprehended by the police team. The injured suspect received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
