A joint team of SWAT and Garhmukteshwar police successfully rescued a kidnapped youth and arrested six individuals, including a woman, dismantling an abduction-for-ransom operation. The police also recovered Rs 7.5 lakh that had been collected as ransom.
Details of the Incident
The victim, Fazil Hayat, a resident of Alipur Chaupala under Gajraula police station in Amroha district, was abducted on April 17. According to police officials, the kidnapping was orchestrated by Mohammad Salman and Masood Ahmad, who, along with their accomplices Akash, Rahul Tyagi, and Neeraj Kumar, transported the victim to Aligarh.
Investigation Findings
ADG of Meerut zone, Bhanu Bhaskar, revealed that the gang had planned the abduction to extort Rs 25 lakh from the victim's family. The accused kept Fazil Hayat confined in a house in Aligarh belonging to co-accused Rahul Tyagi. Rahul's wife, Shruti alias Shikha Tyagi alias Julie, assisted in sheltering both the victim and the accused. The gang managed to collect Rs 7.5 lakh as ransom before police intervention.
Arrest and Recovery
The police team conducted a raid near Syana road under the Garhmukteshwar area, leading to the arrest of the six accused. During the operation, law enforcement recovered Rs 7.5 lakh in cash, two illegal country-made pistols of .315 bore with live cartridges, two knives, and a car used in the crime. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Salman of Aligarh, Masood Ahmad of Bulandshahr (residing in Aligarh), Akash of Kannauj (currently in Gautambudhnagar), Neeraj Kumar of Bijnor (currently in Gautambudhnagar), Rahul Tyagi of Ghaziabad (currently in Aligarh), and his wife Shruti alias Shikha Tyagi alias Julie.
The swift action by the joint police team has been commended, and further investigations are underway to uncover any additional links or similar crimes committed by the gang.
