Major Explosives Haul in Lucknow: Police Seize 4.6 Tonnes in Itaunja Warehouse Operation

In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, Lucknow police conducted a targeted raid at a warehouse in the Itaunja area, resulting in the seizure of a massive quantity of illegally stored explosive materials. The operation, which unfolded on Tuesday, led to the confiscation of firecrackers and country-made 'sutli' bombs with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 45 lakh.

Confidential Tip-Off Sparks Police Action

According to official statements, the recovery was part of an ongoing drive against crime and criminal enterprises in the region. A confidential informant provided crucial intelligence to the Itaunja police, alerting them to the illegal storage of locally manufactured firecrackers, 'sutli' bombs, and factory-made crackers at a warehouse situated near Nagar Chaungawa Mor in Itaunja town. The informant emphasized that the stock posed a severe risk of a major fire accident, prompting immediate police intervention.

Sub-inspector Arvind Kumar Tiwari, accompanied by police personnel and the North Zone surveillance team, swiftly arrived at the location. In the presence of witnesses, authorities opened and meticulously searched four shops operating within the warehouse premises.

Details of the Seized Explosive Materials

The police recovery included:

  • 200 cartons of mixed-brand firecrackers weighing approximately 3,179 kg.
  • 20 sacks of illegally manufactured country-made 'sutli' bombs with a total weight of about 1,400 kg.

In total, nearly 4.6 tonnes of explosive material was seized during the operation. Rishabh Runwal, additional DCP of North, confirmed that the recovered stock falls under punishable offences under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Act, 1908.

Safe Disposal and Legal Proceedings

Following hours of detailed inspection and safety assessment by experts, the seized explosive materials were transported to an open area and safely burnt on Tuesday evening. To eliminate any residual risk, the debris was subsequently buried. This careful disposal process ensured no further danger to public safety.

A case has been registered at the Itaunja police station under the Explosives Act against three individuals: Imran, Adil, and Abrar, all residents of Ward No 9 in Itaunja town. Police officials stated that legal proceedings are currently underway, with further investigation being conducted to trace the source of the explosives and identify any wider network involved in this illicit operation.

This raid underscores the police's commitment to curbing illegal activities and enhancing public security in Lucknow. Authorities continue to urge citizens to report any suspicious activities to help maintain law and order in the community.
