A professor at Lucknow University has been arrested following the circulation of a viral audio recording in which he is heard making obscene remarks during a call with a female student. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with demands for strict action against the accused.
Details of the Incident
The professor, identified as Dr. Rajesh Kumar, was reportedly in a conversation with the student regarding examination papers. During the call, he allegedly used inappropriate language and made lewd comments. The student secretly recorded the conversation and shared it with university authorities, who subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.
In addition to the obscene call, the professor is also accused of leaking question papers for upcoming exams. The university has initiated an internal inquiry and has suspended the professor pending further investigation.
Police Action
The Lucknow Police acted swiftly, arresting the professor from his residence on Tuesday. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to obscenity and criminal intimidation. The police are also examining the audio clip to gather further evidence.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Lucknow, Mr. Anil Kumar, said, "We have taken the matter seriously. The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the court. We are also investigating the alleged paper leak."
University's Response
Lucknow University has condemned the professor's behavior and assured strict action. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai stated, "Such behavior is unacceptable. We have suspended the professor and are cooperating with the police investigation. The welfare of our students is our top priority."
The university has also formed a committee to look into the paper leak allegations and to review security measures for exam materials.

The incident has triggered protests on campus, with students demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victim. Many have taken to social media to express their anger and support for the student who bravely came forward.
One student, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "We feel unsafe. Such incidents tarnish the reputation of the university. The administration must ensure a safe environment for all students."
