A tragic incident of family violence over property has shaken a village on the outskirts of Lucknow. A 50-year-old visually impaired man was shot dead, allegedly by his own nephew, following a bitter land dispute in the Dubagga area on Friday.
The Fatal Confrontation
The victim, identified as Virendra Yadav, was sitting beside a water body outside a house in Tandkheda village when the attack occurred. According to police reports, Virendra had been living with his mother, Ashoka Devi, at her maternal home in Tandkheda for the past six months. This move was necessitated due to alleged harassment by his brother, Narendra, over ancestral property matters.
On Friday, the situation escalated dramatically. Virendra's nephew, Jitendra Yadav, arrived in the village accompanied by his son, Chirag. Eyewitnesses stated that Jitendra asked his uncle to accompany him back to Mehandi Kheda. When Virendra refused, Jitendra reportedly pulled out a country-made pistol and fired at him. The victim collapsed into the nearby water body.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Action
The gunshot alerted a local resident who was feeding cattle in the vicinity. He raised an alarm, prompting villagers to rush to the scene and inform the police. Virendra was quickly rushed to the Trauma Centre. However, doctors could do little and declared him dead upon arrival.
Based on a complaint filed by Virendra's cousin, Kapil Yadav, a murder case has been registered. The police have detained Chirag, the son of the main accused, for questioning. A manhunt is underway to apprehend Jitendra Yadav, who is currently absconding.
Financial Motive Behind the Crime
DCP West, Vishwajeet Srivastava, indicated that preliminary investigations point to a financial motive. He revealed that Ashoka Devi, Virendra's mother, owned 10 biswa of land in Tandkheda, which she sold approximately four months ago. Additionally, she was the recipient of her late husband's railway pension.
The DCP stated, "Jitendra was reportedly angry that neither the pension benefits nor any share of the recently sold land was given to him." This perceived injustice over property and money is believed to have triggered the extreme violence. Police have formed special teams to track down and arrest the accused.
The incident highlights the distressing consequences of familial disputes over land and inheritance, culminating in a heartbreaking loss of life in Lucknow's Dubagga area.
