Lucknow Woman Molested and Thrown from Auto; Driver Arrested

A 55-year-old woman, who owns a stationery store, was allegedly molested and beaten by an autorickshaw driver and his accomplice before being pushed out of a moving vehicle in the Ghazipur (Indiranagar) area of Lucknow. The incident occurred when she resisted their advances. Police later arrested the main accused after he was injured in an encounter.

Incident Details

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the woman booked an auto from Engineering Chauraha to her home in Gomti Nagar through a mobile app. During the journey, the driver, identified as Sunny Kashyap (28), and his associate, Sumit Kashyap (19), allegedly began sexually harassing her inside the moving vehicle.

According to police, when the woman resisted and raised an alarm, the accused assaulted her and attempted to silence her by throttling her. As she continued to fight back, the duo allegedly pushed her out of the moving auto near the CNS Hospital stretch on Ring Road in Sector 25 and fled the scene.

Arrest and Encounter

Despite sustaining injuries, the woman survived. Her family later approached the police, leading to the registration of a case. Police formed special teams to identify and track the accused. DCP (East Zone) Deeksha Sharma stated that Sumit Kashyap was arrested on June 7, while raids continued for Sunny Kashyap.

Acting on intelligence, a joint team of Ghazipur police and the East Zone Crime Branch located Sunny in the early hours of Monday. During the arrest attempt, he opened fire on the police team. Police retaliated in self-defence, injuring him in the leg. He was subsequently taken into custody and admitted to a hospital. An illegal firearm and cartridges were recovered from his possession.

Criminal Background

Police records reveal that Sunny Kashyap has a prior criminal case registered in Sitapur under serious charges. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
