A private bank employee in Ludhiana has been booked by police for allegedly raping a young woman after luring her with a false promise of marriage. The suspect, whose identity has been withheld for legal reasons, is accused of maintaining a relationship with the complainant for over 18 months. During this period, he allegedly convinced both the woman and her family of his genuine intent to marry her.
Case Details
According to the police report, the woman's family formally met with the bank employee, who gave his consent to the union. The complainant has alleged that the bank employee took her to various tourist destinations, including Manali and Kasauli. At these locations, he established physical relations with her under the repeated assurance of a forthcoming court marriage.
Breaking Point
The matter reached a breaking point when the woman and her family arrived at the Jagraon court for the scheduled ceremony. The bank employee reportedly told the woman over the telephone that he would arrive within two hours but failed to appear, leaving her at the altar. He has since allegedly severed all contact and refused to answer her calls.
Legal Action
Sadar Raikot police registered the case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a preliminary investigation. Police are currently searching for the suspect. The case highlights the misuse of marriage promises to exploit women, a growing concern in the region.
