A domestic argument between a live-in couple in Ludhiana escalated into a brutal knife attack on Saturday, leaving both individuals fighting for their lives with critical abdominal injuries. The violent incident, rooted in long-standing suspicions, has sent shockwaves through the Sant Nagar locality of Haibowal.
Violent Confrontation Over Infidelity Suspicions
The couple, identified as Manoj and Gudia Rani, had been living together for approximately six years. According to preliminary information from the PAU police, their relationship had been strained for several months, with mutual allegations of infidelity fueling resentment. Both individuals were previously married and have grown-up children from their earlier marriages.
Police officials stated that the argument erupted within their residence in Sant Nagar and intensified rapidly. What began as a verbal clash soon descended into physical violence, culminating in a near-fatal exchange.
Chaotic Sequence of Mutual Assault
Investigators, piecing together the scene, described a chaotic struggle. It is alleged that Gudia Rani first attacked Manoj with a knife. In retaliation, Manoj reportedly managed to wrest the weapon from her and then stabbed her in the abdomen. In the aftermath of the mutual assault, police further stated that Manoj also inflicted additional injuries upon himself with the same blade.
Emergency Response and Police Investigation
Alerted by the couple's cries, neighbours rushed to the house and found both victims bleeding profusely. They were immediately rushed to a local hospital for emergency surgery. Inspector Varinderpal Singh Uppal, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PAU police station, confirmed that both remain in the intensive care unit (ICU).
"The injured are in critical condition and have been declared unfit by doctors to record their statements at this time," Uppal said. The police have cordoned off the couple's home for a detailed forensic examination to gather evidence.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed. Authorities are awaiting the medical recovery of Manoj and Gudia Rani to record their official statements. This will help determine the exact sequence of events and the provocation that led to this tragic, near-fatal encounter. Their children have been informed about the incident.
