Ludhiana MC Supervisor Alleges Assault, Files Police Complaint
A supervisor from the Municipal Corporation (MC) in Ludhiana has lodged a police complaint, claiming he was assaulted by a couple on Sunday while overseeing sewerage and water pipeline installation in the Smart City Colony area of Haibowal. The victim, Tarun Khera, who works as an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Cell supervisor, approached the Jagatpuri police post to report the incident.
According to Khera, the work involved laying sewerage and water pipelines to replace private infrastructure previously installed by the colony owners. The incident occurred near street number nine, where workers were actively engaged in the project. Khera stated that residents had been facing difficulties with wastewater disposal for several days, and efforts were underway to resolve the issue.
Khera alleged that a woman began using abusive language towards the workers and later attacked him with slippers. Her husband then joined the altercation, resulting in injuries to Khera. Despite intervention by local residents, the couple continued their aggressive behavior, even throwing bricks at him. Khera underwent a medical examination at the Civil Hospital following the attack. He claimed that several residents witnessed the incident and some recorded videos of the altercation.
Khera further alleged that the woman had frequently created obstacles during the work and had previously prevented residents from collecting water supplied through tankers arranged by the department. He also claimed that keys of official vehicles had been snatched on two prior occasions.
O&M Cell Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Anshul Garcha supported Khera's account, stating that the woman had been misbehaving with MC staff for several days. Garcha added that she had also used abusive language towards him during a recent visit to the area. "The employees have been facing harassment since work began in the locality. Today's incident resulted in an attack on our supervisor. The matter has been reported to the police," Garcha said.
The police are investigating the complaint, and further action is expected based on their findings.
