Major Drug Bust in Ludhiana: Police Apprehend Two with Over 11 Kg of Marijuana

In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Ludhiana police have successfully arrested two individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of marijuana near the city's railway station. The operation, which unfolded on Saturday, marks a critical step in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Patrolling Leads to Suspicious Activity

According to officials, the incident occurred during a routine patrol by a team from the Division Number 8 police station. The officers were en route to the railway station via Gol Chowk and Rakh Bagh when they spotted a man and a woman standing suspiciously near a water tank located behind the station premises.

Sub-Inspector Jaswinder Singh reported that upon noticing the approaching police party, the duo immediately attempted to flee the scene. This evasive behavior raised immediate red flags, prompting the officers to take swift action.

Apprehension and Recovery of Contraband

The police personnel quickly surrounded the accused, preventing their escape and successfully apprehending them. Upon searching the individuals, the team recovered a total of 11 kilograms and 320 grams of ganja, commonly known as marijuana.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Deepak Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Inner Devi, originally from Darbhanga, Bihar, but currently residing in Basti Bawa Khe, Jalandhar.

Ongoing Investigation and Linkages

Authorities are now delving deeper into the origins and connections of this drug consignment. Police are actively investigating whether the marijuana was sourced from Bihar, given the accused's ties to the state. Additionally, efforts are underway to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the accused to uncover any broader drug network involved.

This arrest underscores the Ludhiana police's vigilance and commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes from the area. The recovery of such a large quantity of marijuana highlights the persistent challenges in curbing illicit drug trade and the importance of continuous surveillance and patrolling.
