Ludhiana Police Register Case Against Finance Manager and Accomplices for Alleged Kidnapping
The Haibowal police in Ludhiana have taken decisive action by registering a formal case against three individuals, including the manager of a private finance company. The charges stem from the alleged kidnapping, illegal confinement, and physical assault of a local businessman, all reportedly over unpaid loan installments. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the extreme measures some may resort to in financial disputes.
Accused Identified and Details of the Alleged Crime
The accused have been identified as Ramanjot Singh, who serves as the Ludhiana-based manager of the finance firm; Iqbal Singh, a resident of Shero village in Sangrur; and Surinder Singh from Dhuri. According to the complaint filed with the police, the victim, Nikhil Jain, is a printing business owner living in the Haibowal area. Jain had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh at interest from the company but faced financial difficulties, leading to missed installment deadlines.
Ramanjot Singh allegedly responded with continuous threats over the phone, escalating the situation. On Wednesday, while Jain was returning home to Ekta Vihar on his Honda Activa scooter, he was intercepted at the colony's main gate by Iqbal Singh and another individual named Kulwant Singh. The complaint states that Iqbal Singh forcibly boarded the scooter and compelled Jain to drive to the finance company's office located in Chaura Bazar.
Ordeal of Captivity and Police Intervention
Upon arrival at the office, Jain was held hostage and subjected to physical assault and threats by Iqbal Singh and Surinder Singh. He alleged that during this harrowing experience, Kulwant Singh, an employee of the firm, eventually intervened to protect him. While in captivity, Jain managed to contact his wife, who immediately alerted the police, setting in motion a rescue operation.
"The accused took me around 1 pm, and I was only able to walk free at approximately 5.30pm following police intervention," Jain recounted to authorities. This four-and-a-half-hour ordeal underscores the severity of the alleged crimes and the urgent need for law enforcement action.
Legal Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Haibowal police have booked the suspects under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- Section 140: Kidnapping or abducting for ransom or murder
- Section 126(2): Wrongful restraint
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 351(3): Criminal intimidation
- Section 3(5): Common intention
Investigating officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Om Prakash provided an update on the case, stating that while the First Information Report (FIR) has been officially lodged, the accused remain at large. "Raids are currently being conducted to apprehend the suspects," he added, indicating an active pursuit by law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice.
