Ludhiana Police Confirm Land Dispute Motive in Congress Leader's Fatal Axe Attack

In a significant development, the Ludhiana police have definitively ruled out political or contract killing motives in the brutal murder of Congress Block President Parminder Tiwari, asserting that the crime was solely driven by a contentious Panchayat land dispute. This clarification comes approximately a week after the horrific incident in Takhran village, where Tiwari was attacked with an axe and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a private hospital.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests in Bihar

The police have successfully apprehended the two primary accused, identified as Vijay Kumar (22) and Lucky (27), both residents of Machhiwara, from the Jamalpur area of Munger in Bihar. The arrests were made with substantial assistance from the Bihar Police, following an intensive investigation that involved dispatching police teams to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, while also conducting local probes in the Machhiwara region.

Addressing the media on Saturday, DCP Rural Jaskiranjit Singh Teja provided a detailed account of the incident. He stated that the murder occurred at Malwa Chowk around 6:30 pm on March 29, when two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and fatally attacked Tiwari with an axe before fleeing the scene. Subsequently, a murder case was registered against unidentified persons at the Koom Kalan police station.

Investigation Reveals Personal Grudge Over Land Encroachment

The investigation uncovered that Vijay Kumar murdered Tiwari because the victim had prevented him from encroaching on Panchayat land located behind his house. This obstruction led Vijay to harbor a deep-seated grudge, and he had reportedly informed his family three to four days prior to the incident of his intention to kill Tiwari. DCP Teja emphasized that the motive was strictly land-related, with no connections to political rivalries or contract killings.

Following the attack, the accused fled to Delhi by bus and then boarded a train to Bihar before their eventual arrest. The police had constituted three to four teams of ACP-rank officers to spearhead the investigation, which ultimately led to the nomination of the two motorcycle-borne accused in the case.

Additional Arrests for Harboring the Accused

In addition to the two main suspects, four other individuals were previously arrested for harboring and providing shelter to them. These individuals include:

  • Jai Singh (55), the father of Vijay Kumar
  • Ravi Kumar and Amrish, both brothers of Vijay
  • Sunil Kumar, Vijay's uncle

The police investigation confirms that personal animosity over local land oversight was the sole driver behind this fatal assault, bringing clarity to a case that had initially raised concerns about potential political violence in the region.
